Lockpicking

You can find a log of the entire forum given by Sayzor at Tsoran's site.

As you are probably aware, the entire lockpicking system has been changed quite dramatically.  Below is a table given by Sayzor showing the values of lockpicks and their properties.  This table can be used to determine what type of new lockpick an old one corresponds to.

NOTE: This page is still under construction.

Important note: when disarming the new traps, one must have a disarming toolkit, available at your local locksmith.  These kits may be worm on your belt, or stored inside an opened container for use.

So...what does all this mean, well...(taken from a post I made on the lockpicking section of the message boards)

Above are the values I've managed to get from loresinging. By using Sayzor's table, the values from the new price all match with a lockpick type on his chart. The metals definitely do not match, however the sub-groups seem to relate. For example:

A diamond-edged black glaes lockpick, new price of 125,000: on Sayzor's chart, that is Vaalin(40), which is an alum quality lockpick, which matches with the superb stat.

A thick glaes lockpick, new price of 36,000: on Sayzor's chart, Rolaren(15), which is a professionl quality lockpick, matching the bard song value.

It appears that the standard "alum" lockpick on Sayzor's chart is actually a professional quality lockick, rather than the alum we are used to. Only veniom, kelyn, invar, golvern, and vaalin are the true *NEW* alum lockpicks. That is why the current lockpicks are being sung to at 125,000, so they remain with the 2.5 modifier. If they were kept as the old alums, they would have been dropped down in modifier (at least from my view).

Smite said (I think it was Smite) that the new lockpicks would not necessarily match the metal to the actual modifier, which seems to be the case. Essentially, the standard store-bought lockpicks are what they claim to be, and any other lockpicks go by the bard song and what it compares to on Sayzor's chart.
