The Official Rogue Guild
OVERVIEW
To become a member of the Official Rogue Guild of Elanthia, one simply needs to be a rogue who has achieved 15 trainings. Once you are the proper age, a runner will come visit you and offer you an invitation. You're then on your own to discover the location of the guild. I will tell you that there are guilds located in Wehnimers Landing, Teras Isle, Solhaven, Icemule Trace, and the Elven Nations.

Joining
the guild.
Once you have been invited to the guild, and discovered it's location, all you
have to do is find a Guild Master and talk to them about being invited.
There is a 15000 silver initiation fee, along with a 5000 monthly
membership fee to remain in the guild. Once you find a guild master,
either one of the permanent ones, or a player, and have them initiate you.
Once you're a member you must select a skill to train in.
Selecting skills to train
in. To train in a skill, you'll need to find the training administrator
of the guild you're in. If you're in the landing, you'll want to find
DeLuca. In Icemule you'll want Teagais, or Runaire on Teras. Once
you find them, just ASK them ABOUT TRAINING.
You can actually train in multiple skills at the same time, by simply
asking to train in a specific skill.
There are currently six skills to train in. Sweep, cheap shot, subdue,
stun maneuvers, rogue gambits and lock mastery. Below is a brief
explanation of what each does.
Sweep: By sweeping a target you knock it down and thus lower it's defense and
attack by 50 points. To succeed, you need an end roll of greater than
100. If you fail with an end roll resulting in less than 50, you will be
forced to your knees and have your own defense lowered. Sweep works on most
critters, but not all.
Cheap shots: There are seven total cheap shots. The first is FOOTSTOMP
which causes a critter to hop around and incurs a roundtime. The rest of
the cheap shots are listed under the FAQ section.
Subdue: Subdue allows you to stun a critter without actually doing any
physical damage to it. This requires hiding, and the use of a weapon, a dagger
is recommended since it provides an additional bonus. This skill does not
work on many critters, including all undead. If you manage to hit
something with an end roll of over 200, you will paralyze it, leaving it
completely defenseless. With a really good attempt
Stun maneuvers: Stun maneuvers allows you to perform certain actions
while stunned. The first of these is SHIELD, which allows you to get your
shield out while stunned. The other skills are listed below in the FAQ
section.
Rogue gambits: Gambits is a collection of numerous other skills, including
acrobatics, dagger tricks, sleight of hand and more. See the gambits
section for further details.
Lock mastery is a collection of skills and abilities to allow you to open boxes, handle traps, and work with lockpicks.
What/who are Guild Masters.
Guild masters are those who have earned the right to become a Guild Master,
through their training in the guild. They are able to initiate new members,
promote members along their path to training in a skill, as well as promote
them to the next rank. They can nominate others to become Guild Masters,
as well as collect monthly dues from current members.
How
many ranks can I get?
Each skill has a total of 63 ranks, and the first rank in each skill does not
count toward your total number of ranks. The formula to figure out how
many ranks you can earn is quite simple. It is:
(4 x (your level - 4))
What does it take to become a Guild Master
To become a Guild Master you must reach 125 total ranks and master at least one
skill. Once you achieve this, you must find five others who are either
Guild Masters, or eligible to become Guild Masters and have them nominate you
to a sixth Guild Master, usually the NPC Guild Master.
Finding a partner to train with.
In order to train with another person, they must be a challenge to your skill.
This means that they must have no more than two less ranks of the skill
you are training in. For example, if you are training in sweep, and have
10 ranks, your partner must have at least 8 ranks, but can have as many more
than you as possible.
Finding a critter to train with
Again, this is a fairly simple formula. All the values listed are the
minimum age the critter may be. You can always practice on a critter
older than you.
If your level is from...
5-9, the critter may be 1 level below you
10-14, the critter may be 3 levels below you
15-19, the critter may be 6 levels below you
20+, the critter may be 10 levels below you.
For a listing of critters and what skills work and don't work on them, see Midgar's list.
Guild
Stance
USAGE: GLD STANCE (stance desired)
offensive 100% of total skill
advance 85% of total skill
forward 70% of total skill
neutral 55% of total skill
guarded 40% of total skill
Unlike your regular stance, guild stance affects attacking and defending
equally, as if you were simply less skilled. The stance names are simply the
same for the sake of being easily remembered.
For example:
When using his full guild skill, JoeRogue sweeps with an MS of 424 and defends
against being swept with an MD of 310, while parrying in stance offensive. He
types GLD STANCE FORWARD without modifying his normal parry stance. He will now
attack with a sweep MS of 296, and defend against sweeps with an MD of 217.
Changing your guild stance will also affect the amount of experience you gain
when training in guild skills with a partner.
How do I...? FAQ's
How do I sweep the courtyard?
How do I water the wildflowers?
How do I clean the windows?
Why can't I water the
flowers/clean the windows again, they're not ready?
I can't hit the footpad, what
am I doing wrong?
The guard won't let me in, but
I'm old enough, what do I do?
Who are the skilled masters?
The NPC Guild Master is gone,
where is he?
I hate this skill/task, can I
trade it in for another?
I haven't paid my dues in a while, and the guard won't let me in, what can I
do?
How do I sweep the courtyard?
First, get
yourself a broom and bag from the tool rack. Then find some scattered
dirt, and make sure nobody else in the room is sweeping it. Then simply PUSH
the broom and it'll make a pile. Once all the scattered dirt is in a
pile, simply GET pile. Periodically you should LOOK in your bag to see if
it is full. Once its full, take it back to the rack where you got it from
and PUT it in the bin. If you find there is no dirt around, go and PUT
the bag in the bin, even if it's not full, it will generate more dirt.
How do I water the wildflowers?
Head down to
the storage area and get yourself a watering can. Then find yourself a
bunch of wildflowers, kneel down and WATER the wildflowers with your watering
can.
How do I clean the windows?
Head to the
storage area and get yourself a soft rag. Find a window and RUB it with
your rag.
Why can't I water the flowers/clean the windows again, they're
not ready?
You have to
wait a while for them to need watering/cleaning again. It generally takes
around 10 minutes.
I
can't hit the footpad, what am I doing wrong?
First off, make sure you are in an OFFENSIVE
stance. Then, make sure you're not wearing armor. If you're doing
both of these things, you should be able to hit them, although you may have a
very small chance, it will be possible.
The guard won't let me
in, but I'm old enough, what do I do?
If you don't
have or forgot your password, just listen to what the guard tells you.
He'll give it to you again, but it'll definitely cost you. If
you're smart, you'll write it down in a safe place and never lose it again.
If on the other hand you just reached your 15th training, there is a different
procedure. If you're patient, you can wait for a runner to find you and
deliver your password to you so you can get in the guild. However if you
just can't wait, just find a Guild Master and ask them to initiate you outside
the guild. Either way, you'll have to get a Guild Master to initiate you
before you can start training in the guild.
Who are the skilled masters?
The skilled
masters are NPC's who will give you lessons in the skills. They are
located within the guild, near the Training Administrator.
The NPC Guild Master is gone, where is he?
Probably on a
break. If you need to talk with him, try asking if there are any other
Guild Masters around that can help you instead.
I hate this skill/task, can I trade it in for another?
You can trade in tasks
easily. Simply ask the training
administrator about TRADING. Be
forewarned that it’ll cost you training points though, so it’s often not worth
it.
I haven't paid my dues in a while, and the guard won't let me in,
what can I do?
By not paying
your dues three months in a row, you become an inactive member in the guild.
This means that you will have to be re-initiated into the guild by a
Guild Master. You will have to pay the 15000 silver initiation fee again,
and will keep all the ranks you earned before. You MUST be invited back
by a player Guild Master, meaning you have to find one and get them to come
outside the guild and help you back in.
